CHALLENGER is a limited series inspired by the true story of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, exploring the people, ambitions and decisions surrounding America’s space program in the years leading up to the 1986 tragedy and its aftermath.
Spanning the 1970s through the late 1980s, the series is set against a transformative era in American history, from the evolution of NASA and the Space Shuttle program to the culture, fashion and everyday life of the period.
Casting TaylorMade is seeking MANY different types of background performers to help us tell this story as authentically and historically accurately as possible.
And you know how much we LOVE creating an 1980s world! We’re bringing it 110% for this production, and we’d love your help making this world as authentic as possible.
✂️ HAIR + FACIAL HAIR
If you’re interested in working on CHALLENGER, please STOP cutting your hair at this time! Longer, grown-out, natural hair gives our Hair & Makeup team much more to work with when creating authentic 1970s and 1980s looks. The same goes for facial hair — let it grow!
There are A LOT of different types of roles we’ll be casting throughout this production, and we promise: if your hair and/or facial hair is right for the period and what we’re looking for, we will find a spot for you on this one!
And no need to text us asking if we saw your submission — we see you. 😉 We review your submissions and photos carefully and will reach out when we have the right fit for you.
Because this is a 1970s–1980s period production, your current hair and facial hair are an important part of the casting process.
If you are able to, please start GROWING OUT your hair and facial hair now and avoid making any major cuts or changes. Having a little extra length gives our Hair Department the best foundation to work with so they can cut, trim, shape or style it into the specific period look needed for your role.
If selected, we may ask you to make slight alterations to your hair or facial hair, so please let us know in the questions below exactly what you ARE and ARE NOT comfortable changing.
Please do not make any changes specifically for the production unless we ask you to.

👗 FITTINGS
A costume fitting is MANDATORY for booked background performers and is an important part of creating the correct period look for each scene.
📍 Fittings will be held at the studio in Doraville, GA 30360.
Fittings are separate from filming days and are typically scheduled 2–4 weeks before your filming date.
If selected for a role, we will send you a fitting sign-up link so you can choose the day + time within that week.
👞 WARDROBE
Costumes will also provide a specific list of clothing, shoes and/or accessories to bring from home, and we would LOVE your help with this! The more period-appropriate options we have to work with, the better we can build this world together.
🚙 VINTAGE VEHICLES — YES, WE WILL BE CASTING THEM!
Of course, a production spanning the 1970s through the late 1980s needs the vehicles to match! We will be casting LOTS of vintage/period vehicles for CHALLENGER.
If you are hoping to work WITH your vintage vehicle, please HOLD OFF on submitting your vehicle through this casting call.
We are creating a separate casting call specifically for YOU + YOUR VEHICLE with all of the information we need from you.
We promise, vintage vehicle owners — you WILL hear from us! 🚗 We’ll also be posting the vehicle casting call publicly as soon as it’s ready, so keep an eye out for it.
👧🧒 MINORS — YOUR CASTING CALLS ARE COMING TOO!
Parents, please HOLD OFF on submitting your kids through this casting call.
We WILL be casting minors for CHALLENGER, but we’ll have separate casting calls specifically for our younger performers coming out within the next week or so.
Those calls will include the specific ages, roles, dates and information we need from you, so please wait for those before submitting your child.
